Kansas City leaders often complain that the city’s huge size makes it harder to answer police calls quickly, repair roads or plow snow. And planners warn against continuing to expand the city’s boundaries.
Yet, according to a Kansas City Star article that’s exactly what a City Council panel is contemplating. A Northland developer’s request that Kansas City annex 316 acres for a housing development near Platte City has some neighbors shocked that the city would even consider spreading farther toward the Iowa border.
“They’ve got land they can’t take care of now,” said nearby resident Kirby Holden. “I think the sprawl is stupid.”
